Download Dreamhaven’s Oral Appliance Therapy Referral Form

At Dreamhaven Dental Sleep Medicine, we believe it is important for patients with sleep disorders to first work with a medical physician for proper diagnosis and treatment planning for excessive snoring or obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) conditions, prior to pursuing treatment with a mandibular advancement device.

As a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, our clinic protocol is that CPAP is the first choice for patients with mild, moderate or severe OSA, and, as research shows, mandibular advancement devices can be an effective treatment for those patients who are intolerant of CPAP.

In February 2006, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine published the practice parameters report for use of oral appliances for OSA. These guidelines state that oral appliances should be used as first-line treatment for patients with primary snoring or mild OSA and in certain cases of moderate OSA. Currently, there are more than 11 randomized, controlled research studies that support the use of oral appliances for patients with mild or moderate OSA.
